Healing Hearts: AVM Mom’s Edition Support Group is a new online support group that meets once a month and is dedicated to offering support, hope, and comfort to mothers who are either dealing with a child's brain AVM (arteriovenous malformation) diagnosis or who have lost a child due to a brain AVM rupture. The group understands the challenges and difficulties that come with dealing with such a diagnosis and loss, and aims to be a source of comfort and support every step of the way.
The group's agenda is designed to ensure that every participant has an opportunity to share and participate in a safe and supportive environment. The meetings will start with a brief introduction by the facilitator, followed by a short devotional or topic to open the meeting.
During the discussion time, the group is invited to share and participate, with the time being limited to ensure that each person has an opportunity to contribute. The group honors the time limit and always starts and ends on time to ensure that everyone can participate without worrying about disruptions.
There are no right or wrong feelings, responses, or ideas in the group. Instead, the group is a space for individuals to witness and hold space for one another, without attempting to fix anything. Unless someone directly asks for input, the group refrains from giving opinions and instead shares what has worked for them without any attachment to outcome.
No topic is off-limits, so long as it relates to loss or coping with AVM. The group aims to be supportive and educational, with the understanding that everyone can learn from one another's experiences.
It's important to note that no one will be forced to speak if they are not comfortable. The group relies on each other for support, and strict confidentiality is held in and out of the group. The group is also mindful of the wording towards one another and respects all religious beliefs and backgrounds.
